Amherst Named One of America’s “Best Places to Live”

In a list of the top 100 cities to live in, Amherst ranks at number 50. The list ranks cities based on real estate and financial markets, as well as quality of life. Here’s what the writers of the list have to say about Amherst:

“Nestled in the westernmost part of New York State, Amherst is a stone’s throw away from Niagara Falls and within driving distance of skiing and snowboarding. Those are perks for residents who put up with over 90 inches of snowfall a year. Yet folks seem very loath to leave; Amherst is home to a sizable community of empty nesters and retirees (35% are 50 or older). While there are some major employers here, such as Kaleida Health and the University of Buffalo, there’s no real downtown.”
